Project Work Packages

WP1 – Transnational Project Management and Coordination

  • To ensure smooth implementation of project activities that will result in achieving planned results with required quality,
  • thematic project management (content-related activities),
  • administrative project management (organization of financial and administrative activities)

WP2 – Communication and Dissemination

Since some work packages require GIS functionality, a simple website doesn't cover the needs. Internet platform will include web based GIS client for exchange of spatial information and provision of common regional maps.

  • Development of data and delivery system to end users and stakeholders,
  • internet platform (web based GIS client for exchange of spatial information and provision of common regional maps),
  • print and electronic media, country-specific awareness campaigns
WP3 – Climatological monitoring and mapping system

Following drought indices will be implemented and mapped: Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI) and Palfai Aridity Index (PAI). At least SPI will be in operation in the whole SEE region with maps available online.

  • Mapping system as a precondition for establishment of a common methodology for drought assessment,
  • to implement drought indices (SPI, PDSI, PAI,…); to have at least SPI (Standardized Precipitation Index) in the whole SEE region and to have maps available online,
  • irrigation scheduling system for end users,
  • development of software to detect snow cover
WP4 – Drought risk assessment

A common methodology for drought assessment (based on available meteorological data and climatologic archives) will be developed and adopted. The impacts will be analyzed from the historical records. The drought risk and drought vulnerability maps will be developed for the region using GIS techniques. Knowing vulnerability and risk, DMCSEE will be able to advice on improved drought management and policy

  • Common methodology for drought assessment ,
  • risk and drought vulnerability maps,
  • vulnerability will be categorized and visualized in relative scale to provide decision makers with essential basis for drought management policy options,
  • general usability of results
WP5 – Capacity building trainings
  • Educate the partners: presenting of a common methodology to decision-makers, to include project results into national action plans, advise the end users on how to developed methodology to mitigate the impacts of drought,
  • specialized trainings and national seminars

WP6 – The start-up of the DMCSEE

DMCSEE will remain in operation also after the project termination. Preparation of work plan, terms of reference and advise on legal personality of “permanent” DMCSEE are goals of WP6.

  • Connect organisations and to organise DMCSEE permanent functioning and steering,
  • partners will provide their views and advices on organisational structure, internal rules, procedures and responsibilities,
  • after the project ends – to influence decision makers in SEE countries to enable the improvement of necessary meteorological infrastructure
